The Department of Biomedical and Health Sciences was established in 2006; concurrently with the founding of UNISEL and makes it the oldest department in the university. Previously, the focus was to support the state demand on the healthcare work force, as the State of Selangor was gearing towards achieving the First Developed State in Malaysia. As time goes by, the department is now responsible to produce graduates with adequate knowledge, skill and attitude in all Biomedical and Health Sciences disciplines. At present, the engineering department offers 9 programmes as follows;
- Master in Life Science (by Research)
- Bachelor of Occupational Safety & Health (Honors)
- Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Sciences (Honors)
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
- Diploma in Medical Imaging
- Diploma in Environmental Health
- Diploma in Physiotherapy
- Diploma in Nursing
The Biomedical and Health Sciences department is led by a Dean, assisted by 3 Deputy Dean (Academic, Student Affair and Research), an Assistant Registrar who is responsible for the administration of the division. There are 8 Head of Programmes (HOP) who are reporting to the Deputy Dean (Academic), responsible in managing and coordinating the programmes offered. In addition, there is a Science Officer who is reporting to the Deputy Dean, responsible in managing the overall laboratories.
The Biomedical and Health Sciences department recognizes the need to strengthening networking and internationalization in order to be comparable to the best higher education system in the world. In lieu with this need, the Department of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Universiti Selangor has stepped forward to work together with international universities. To this end, the Department of Biomedical and Health Sciences, has signed an MoU/MoA with several universities in Bangkok Thailand, Medan and Bandung, Indonesia. The main objective is to ensure that Department of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Unisel has its internationalization characteristics to make it one of the hubs for international excellence.
